I left Marioupol in the snow last February.
I had left three cameras with the young people and a few instructions. Above all, I had promised to return before the end of the summer.
As soon as I got back to France, I went to Paris to meet Jean-François Leroy, the director of the famous “Visa pour l’Image” photojournalism festival in Perpignan.
My intention was to persuade him to present photos taken by young people in the ravaged port city, which is being rebuilt at a phenomenal rate, at the next edition of the festival.
The good news arrived just before I was due to fly back to Istanbul to Sochi, then on to Rostov on the Don and Mariupol.
A screening is scheduled for early September.
All hands on deck, all hands at work.
At times I was seized with doubt. Will there be anything interesting left to do in my absence?
The answer is yes.
Olga Agarkova never ceases to surprise me with her desire and her eye.
I leave you to judge her images.
But it seems to me that there is a determined and inspired person here.
Festival-goers will be impressed.

J’ai quitté Marioupol sous la neige en février dernier.
J’avais laissé trois appareils photo aux jeunes et quelques instructions. Et surtout j’avais promis de revenir avant la fin de l’été.
À peine de retour en France, je suis allé à Paris rencontrer Jean-François Leroy, le directeur du célèbre festival de photo-journalisme « Visa pour l’Image » à Perpignan.
Mon intention était de le convaincre de présenter lors de la prochaine édition du festival, les photos réaliser par les jeunes de la ville portuaire ravagée mais en cours de reconstruction à une vitesse phénoménale.
La bonne nouvelle est arrivé juste avant que je reprenne l’avion en direction d’Istanbul pour rejoindre Sochi puis Rostov sur le Don et Mariupol.
Une projection est prévue début de septembre.
Branle-bas de combat, tous sur le pont, au travail.
Par instants j’ai été pris d’un doute. Restera-t-il quelque chose d’intéressant fait en mon absence ?
La réponse est oui.
Olga Agarkova ne cesse de me surprendre par son envie et son œil.

Mais il me semble qu’il y là une personne déterminé et d’inspiré.
Les festivaliers vont être impressionnés.

Я оставил молодым людям три фотоаппарата и несколько инструкций. Прежде всего, я обещал вернуться до конца лета.
Как только я вернулся во Францию, я отправился в Париж, чтобы встретиться с Жан-Франсуа Леруа, директором известного фестиваля фотожурналистики “Visa pour l’Image” в Перпиньяне.
Моим намерением было убедить его представить на следующем фестивале фотографии, сделанные молодыми людьми в разрушенном портовом городе, который восстанавливается феноменальными темпами.
Хорошие новости пришли как раз перед тем, как я должен был лететь обратно в Стамбул, в Сочи, затем в Ростов на Дону и Мариуполь.
Показ фильма запланирован на начало сентября.
Все в сборе, все за работой.
Временами меня охватывали сомнения.
Есть ли что-нибудь интересное, что было сделано, пока меня не было?
Ответ – да.
Ольга Агаркова не перестает удивлять меня своим желанием и своим взглядом.
Я оставляю вам право судить о ее образах.
Но мне кажется, что здесь работает целеустремленный и вдохновленный человек.
Зрители фестиваля будут впечатлены.
