With the end of my photo workshops fast approaching, the young participants were keen to meet up with as many of us as possible for a final excursion.
Although the centre of Marioupol is changing day by day, there is still one district – the one known as “Vostochniy” (“Eastern” because of its location some fifteen kilometres to the east of the city centre), which was the scene of bitter fighting and where buildings still stand that are not being renovated or removed as a priority.
So last Saturday, 22 July 2023, eight of us went there, counting myself.
It was a chance for Veronika, Lyudmila and Ekaterina to join old hands Olga, Vladislav, Alexander and Mikhail.
For once, I have chosen to highlight the production of Alexander Zhezhoma (23), whose contribution to the creativity and cohesion of our group has been enormous.
I’d like to take this opportunity to thank both the participants and all those who supported me, both officially and behind the scenes.
Whether it was obtaining a Russian visa or taking me on a walk through parts of the city that I didn’t know existed, telling me what happened there during the blockade and the fighting.
Among them, I’d like to underline my gratitude to Angela Sportesnaya and Andrey Kior.
Now, I’d like to invite you to Perpignan (France) on 4 September 2023 for the screening of the photos at the famous photojournalism festival ‘Visa pour l’Image’.

La fin de mes ateliers de photographie approchant rapidement l’envie de nous retrouver le plus nombreux possible pour une dernière excursion s’est faite ressentir parmi les jeunes participants.
Si le centre de Marioupol se métamorphose de jour en jour, il reste un quartier – celui qui porte le nom de « Vostochniy » (« oriental » pour la localisation à une quinzaine de kilomètre à l’Est du centre-ville), et qui fut l’objet d’âpres combats et où persistent encore des immeubles dont la rénovation ou l’enlèvement n’est pas la priorité.
Donc samedi dernier, le 22 juillet 2023, nous nous y sommes rendus à huit en me comptant.
L’occasion pour Véronika, Lioudmila et Ékathérina de s’associer aux anciens que sont Olga, Vladislav, Alexander et Mikhaïl.
Une fois n’est pas coutume je choisis de mettre l’accent sur la production d’Alexandre Zhezhoma (23 ans) dont la contribution à la créativité et la cohésion de notre groupe aura été énorme.
J’aimerais remercier ici, aussi bien les participants que tous ceux qui, officiellement comme dans l’ombre, m’auront apporté leur soutien.
Que ce fut pour l’obtention du visa russe comme de me promener à travers des quartiers de la ville que j’ignorais en me racontant ce qui s’y passa pendant le blocus et les combats.
Parmi eux, j’aimerais souligner ma reconnaissance à Angéla Sportesnaya et Andreï Kior.
Maintenant, je vous donne rendez-vous la 4 septembre 2023 à Perpignan (France) pour la projection des photos à l’occasion du fameux festival de photo-journalisme « Visa pour l’Image ».

В связи с окончанием фотосеминаров молодые участники стремились встретиться с как можно большим количеством участников для проведения заключительной экскурсии.
Хотя центр Мариуполя меняется с каждым днем, в нем все еще остается один район – “Восточный”, где шли ожесточенные бои и где до сих пор стоят здания, которые не ремонтируются и не убираются в первоочередном порядке.
Поэтому в прошлую субботу, 22 июля 2023 года, мы отправились туда ввосьмером, не считая меня.
Для Вероники, Людмилы и Екатерины это был шанс присоединиться к старым знакомым Ольге, Владиславу, Александру и Михаилу.
В этот раз я решил особо отметить работу Александра Жежомы (23 года), чей вклад в творчество и сплоченность нашей группы был огромен.
Пользуясь случаем, я хотел бы поблагодарить как участников, так и всех тех, кто поддерживал меня как официально, так и за кулисами.
Будь то получение российской визы или прогулка по незнакомым мне районам города, рассказ о том, что там происходило во время блокады и боев.
Среди них я хотел бы подчеркнуть свою благодарность Анжеле Спортивной и Андрею Киору.
Теперь я приглашаю Вас 4 сентября 2023 года в Перпиньян (Франция) на показ фотографий на знаменитом фестивале фотожурналистики “Visa pour l’Image”.
