Mariupol – About Vlad

About Vlad.

It was last August (2022) that I met Vladislav, 12 years old, when I was walking alone up and down the martyred city for the first time.
Accompanied by his best friend, he was sliding around the central station of the port city, a station completely destroyed like all strategic locations.

After talking with him to convince him to let himself be photographed (which he accepted without fear) I gave him my local telephone number, as I was looking for a family likely to testify before the start of the school year.

It didn’t take 48 hours before Alexandra, his mother, called me.

This was the beginning of a very friendly relationship with the whole family.

During one of my many visits to their very modest home, Vlad told me that he too would like to take photographs.

As I had been thinking for months (i.e. the retreat of the Azov Battalion) about the idea of a photo workshop on the model of what I had done in Dontesk, Gorlovka and Illitchivsk in 2015, I accepted his wish.
So when I arrived at the university on 20 January to lead the first session of my new workshops, I was not surprised to find him there in the company of his older brother Valery and his friend Nikita, mentioned above.

Vlad is still taking pictures in his neighbourhood, during our outing last Sunday, and of his niece born three days earlier in one of the reconstructed hospitals;

Arte having commissioned me to make a short documentary film about my photo workshops and its participants, I quickly decided to make him the central figure.
A role that he immediately embraced with a certain brilliance.

Encore sans relâche, Vlad fait des photos dans son quartier, lors de notre sortie de dimanche dernier, et de sa nièce née trois jours plus tôt dans un des hôpitaux recontruits ;

Влад по-прежнему фотографирует в своем районе, во время нашей прогулки в прошлое воскресенье, а также свою племянницу, родившуюся тремя днями ранее в одной из восстановленных больниц;
